Rosewood

Rosewood is available in a variety of species. The three primary, and commercially available rosewoods are Indian (Dalbergia latifolia), Mexican (also known as “Bocote” – Cordia spp.), and Honduran Rosewood (Dalbergia stevensonii). Brazilian Rosewood at one time was more abundant, but is now very difficult to find.

Due to the limited availability of Brazilian Rosewood, many woodworkers now use mostly Indian Rosewood, Honduran Rosewood, or Cocobolo. Common uses for Rosewood include: fine furniture, cabinetry, flooring, musical instruments (acoustic guitars, piano cases, etc.), turned objects, and other small wooden specialty items.
